Eating disorder
Eating disorder is one of the problems resulted from extreme beauty. Many young girls all over the world especially in developing countries are suffering from it. Of course Japan is not exception. Though the symptom of eating disorder is mainly classified into two kinds; bulimia (overeating) and anorexia (lack or loss of appetite for food), the basic attitude is the same. They are afraid of being fat abnormally. Most young girls, even little girls in elementary school believe in a “myth” that being thin is virtue and getting fat is sin. Media is involved into creating the myth deeply. “How to diet” is a popular topic in women’s magazines. Surprisingly, magazines for children also deal with this topic. They imprint the value to little girls. Increase of the number of eating disorder patients in Japan must be caused by forcing a biased value.

This is very interesting. Especially when you talk about the myth that young Japanese girls believe in - that being thin is a kind of virtue and being fat is sinful.
ReplyDeleteSince you are writing an expository paragraph, do you want to include more details about how and when eating disorder become a social problem in Japan? What is the cause of the problem? How does the myth emerge? Does this problem affect other people other than young female?
You are on the right track. Keep going!

ReplyDeleteGood point. It also happened in China, but anorexia are more common than the bulima. Girls want to keep thin by eating less or eating loss. I have ever tried to lose weight by eating apple meal but I quit after two days because it made me feel very hungry and I can't keep it. Keeping health is the most important.
