Also explain in one or sentences why

1.)"Whose life is it, anyway" (Euthania quotation 2004)? Euthanasia is the taking of a person's life and that is wrong even if the person desires to die. Voluntary euthanasia can be defined as the person asking someone to take his/her life. It is a crime to take someone's life. Who has the right to take another person's life? Who should be allowed to state whether a person should die? Who can determine whether taking a person's life is for the benefit of the person who dies? These are questions that should be addressed by both sides of the debate. Many people state they want to die because their pain is so severe or they feel so depressed. However, as long as a person lives the hope of a better tomorrow is always there. Euthanasia is wrong according to the law and even the natural law of the creator.
2.) My hometown and my college town are similar in several ways. First, my hometown, Gridlock, is a small town. It has a population of only about 10,000 people. Located in a rural area, Gridlock is surrounded by many acres of farmland which are devoted mainly to growing corn and soybeans. Gridlock also contains a college campus, Neutron College, which is famous for its Agricultural Economics program as well as for its annual Corn-Watching Festival. As for my college town, Subnormal, it too is small, having a population of about 11,000 local residents, which swells to 15,000 people when students from the nearby college are attending classes. Like Gridlock, Subnormal lies in the center of farmland which is used to raise hogs and cattle. Finally, Subnormal is similar to Gridlock in that it also boasts a beautiful college campus, called Quark College. This college is well known for its Agricultural Engineering department and also for its yearly Hog-Calling Contest.
Even though Arizona and Rhode Island are both states of the U.S., they are strikingly different in many ways. For example, the physical size of each state is different. Arizona is large, having an area of 114,000 square miles, whereas Rhode Island is only about a tenth the size, having an area of only 1,214 square miles. Another difference is in the size of the population of each state. Arizona has about four million people living in it, but Rhode Island has less than one million. The two states also differ in the kinds of natural environments that each has. For example, Arizona is a very dry state, consisting of large desert areas that do not receive much rainfall every year. However, Rhode Island is located in a temperate zone and receives an average of 44 inches of rain per year. In addition, while Arizona is a landlocked state and thus has no seashore, Rhode Island lies on the Atlantic Ocean and does have a significant coastline.

3.) Volcanoes figure prominently in the mythology of many peoples who have learned to live with eruptions, but science was late in recognizing the important roleof volcanism in the evolution of the Earth.One major 18th-century school of thoughtheld that molten rock and volcanoes were simply accidents caused by burning coal seams. Geologists today agree that volcanism is a profound process resultingfrom the thermal evolution of planetary bodies. Heat does not easily escape from large bodies by conduction or radiation. Instead, partial melting and buoyant rise of magma are major contributors to the process of heat flux from the Earth's interior. Volcanoes are the surface manifestation of this thermal process, which has its roots deep inside the Earth and which hurls its ashes high into the atmosphere.
4.) Forests, which are main habitats of terrestrial animals, are being damaged more and more rapidly and execrably to meet the requests of logging, so that a number of animals are facing extinction due to losing habitats. Northeast tiger, living in the northeast part of China and being famous for their fur with extraordinary high commercial value, is one of those unfortunate species, remaining only 360 to 406 wild ones. To solve the problem, I think, the two measures following may work.
First, government can control the amount of logging with policies. Limiting lignum trade by raising tax, demarcating certain areas of logging, and encourage people to plant trees may all be feasible ways. With the guarantee of habitats, the situation of northeast tiger's survival may be ameliorated efficiently.In addition, protecting the other animals in the forests is also an important step. As the balance of the whole ecosystem is related to each element in it, every part cannot be ignored. All the creatures in a certain area build a close circle, food chain, where if one tach breaks, the whole cycle breaks down. Northeast tiger of course is within the food chain and needs the other animals’ support to live. Thus, protecting the other animals is though indirect but essential step that should be taken considering in the long term.
5.) In recent decades, cities have grown so large that now about 50% of the Earth's population lives in urban areas. There are several reasons for this occurrence. First, the increasing industrialization of the nineteenth century resulted in the creation of many factory jobs, which tended to be located in cities. These jobs, with their promise of a better material life, attracted many people from rural areas. Second, there were many schools established to educate the children of the new factory laborers. The promise of a better education persuaded many families to leave farming communities and move to the cities. Finally, as the cities grew, people established places of leisure, entertainment, and culture, such as sports stadiums, theaters, and museums. For many people, these facilities made city life appear more interesting than life on the farm, and therefore drew them away from rural communities.
6.) Fast food gets bad press these days, especially since it often contains too much fat, sodium and calories, but it brings much needed convenience to our stressful busy world. Fast food is easily found and varied. At any mall, for example, customers have many choices at the food court. To avoid too much fat or salt, they can choose healthier options: salads, turkey sandwiches and so on. On a busy Saturday, with two hungry kids, a mother out shopping is happy to find exactly the right food to eat. Not only that, but the food will be ready quickly, thus reducing the stress on her from demanding children. Fast food is also inexpensive; most menu items offer a full meal for under ten dollars. It is easy to see why fast food is so popular these days—it is convenient and reduces our stress.
7.) Today many people are convinced that the elimination of the gray wolf was not only an error, but also a detriment to the quality of life in this country. There has been a public outcry to rectify the situation created by the ignorance of our ancestors. However, in seeking to address a situation created by the human compulsion to control nature, it is crucial to discern how much human interference is necessary. Human control must be tempered by respect and restraint. Programs designed for the protection and restoration of wildlife must reflect deference for the natural order rather than dominance over it.
8.) It seems like every little girl dreams of becoming a model. They want to be thin and pretty like the models they see on television and in magazines. Often the desire becomes an obsession and young girls see “thinness” as being a needed characteristic. For most girls, the teenage years are spent trying to acquire this look. Females are trying diets and are exercising like it is a competition to see who can lose the most weight the quickest. The obsession of many young girls over their appearance or weight has led to a growing number of people who have developed an eating disorder to try to deal with their lack of self-esteem or other related problems.
9.) Alice Walker and Maya Angelou are two contemporary African-American writers. Although almost a generation apart in age, both women display a remarkable similarity in their lives. Each has written about her experiences growing up in the rural South, Ms. Walker through her essays and Ms. Angelou in her autobiographies. Though they share similar backgrounds, each has a unique style which gives to us, the readers, the gift of their exquisite humanity, with all of its frailties and strengths, joys and sorrows.

Summary

The author says that the economical depression has made the number of homelessness reach to the most this year. Even though the shelter system has already been prepared for homelessness, there are still problems in the system. Though the organization in New York looks focusing on helping homelessness, the new rule was valid for only 2 years.

Even though he evaluates the services that organization is doing for homelessness, I think the services cannot support them completely as the author stated in the very first statement on the first paragraph that New Yorkers in and out of government should be concerned about homelessness. Because the services can make some family difficult to get welfare and food-stamp benefits. Also, the advocates are predicting disaster when the subsidies run out.

President Obama promised in his campaign to preserve President George W. Bush’s faith-based initiative aimed at helping social service programs sponsored by religious organizations win federal grants and contracts. He also promised a vitally important change: groups receiving federal money would no longer be allowed to hire employees on the basis of their religion.Skip to next paragraph
The idea was to prevent discrimination and preserve the boundary between church and state. But Mr. Obama has not made good on the promise. His February executive order revamping the White House office for religion-based and neighborhood programs left untouched a 2002 presidential directive authorizing religious-oriented programs that receive federal financing to hire and fire on religious grounds.
Also left untouched was a constitutionally suspect 2007 memo concluding that the government cannot order religious groups not to discriminate as a condition of federal financing — even in programs like Head Start, where religious discrimination is outlawed. The memo, based on a far-fetched interpretation of the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act, was produced by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel. That is the same outfit that wrote the memos authorizing torture.
A coalition of 58 religious, educational and civil liberties groups is now seeking to reverse the 2007 memo. A group letter last month to Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. asked him to direct the current Office of Legal Counsel to review and withdraw the memo. Mr. Holder should do so, and Mr. Obama should revise his February executive order to include the anti-discrimination language that he omitted the first time around.
As a candidate, Mr. Obama drew the right line. Effective social service programs should not be ineligible for federal dollars just because they have a religious affiliation. But they should be required to abide by the same anti-discrimination laws as everyone else. Public money should not be used to pay for discrimination.

The last few years have seen a boom in 3-D movies. And a new generation of cameras, projectors and light-processing technologies — relying on such things as circularly polarized light — has transformed the process. Watching old 3-D movies, you felt as if you were looking at a flat screen with occasional protrusions. Watching the re-release of “Toy Story” — and especially the trailer for the 3-D version of “A Christmas Carol” — you feel as if you’re looking through the surface of a snow globe and sometimes as if you’re falling right into it.
Leaving the theater we found ourselves thinking about the best 3-D effect of all: walking out of a 3-D movie and into a 3-D city. (What a subtle world we live in!) The actual world doesn’t have to create the illusion of its three-dimensionality. Its depth is so pervasive that we forget to notice it. We register it with a kind of 3-D equanimity, taking in everything as part of the natural field of view. There’s an unexpected serenity, a calmness, in how we see.
That was the pleasure of walking up Broadway from the theater. When a man looking for spare change said “Hey, bub!” his face didn’t leap into the foreground, nor did we suddenly see ourselves walking toward him from his point of view. The light mist that was falling didn’t hang like the northern lights between us.
It was a pleasure to take 3-D for granted and marvel, for a few blocks at least, at the subtlety of the special effects inherent in ordinary perception.

New Yorkers in and out of government should be concerned by new statistics showing that homelessness has reached an all-time high and that 120,000 men, women and children resorted to the shelter system during the fiscal year that ended this summer. The spike in homelessness is especially troubling because it has arrived before the onset of winter, which typically drives people in off the streets, filling the shelter system to bursting.
The Bloomberg administration says it is fully prepared for the winter rush and has been adjusting all along for a rise in demand for shelter that began two years ago. Even so, the administration should keep looking down the road to determine if new populations are becoming vulnerable and if new policies might be needed to keep endangered families in their homes.
The city attributes most of the rise in homelessness to the economy. It says the problem is not as bad here as in other cities and would be worse if not for refinements in the system, including programs that channel people into permanent homes and that prevent at-risk families from becoming homeless in the first place. The administration points with justifiable pride to the fact that the shelter system is more humane than it was a decade ago.
Advocates for the homeless and the hungry, however, continue to be suspicious of the city’s motives. They argue that the city has driven some vulnerable families to the brink with bureaucratic obstacles that make it difficult for qualified families to receive welfare and food-stamp benefits. A bone of contention between the advocates and the city dates to 2005 when Mayor Michael Bloomberg ended the practice of channeling shelter residents into apartments paid for by the federal Section 8 housing voucher program, which was then under attack by the Bush administration and in disfavor with Congress.
Under Section 8, people keep subsidies as long as they remain income eligible. In 2007, New York created a time-limited program under which working families get support services and rent subsidies that end after two years. The point was to get as many families as possible to stand on their own, but the advocates are predicting disaster when the subsidies run out and are calling for the city to return to the Section 8 strategy. The Bloomberg administration contends that this program has worked well and that only a tiny fraction of the families have reverted to homelessness. But the city should keep a close watch on these families as the subsidies phase out.

So that i never know clearly about my father's father. somehow, my grandfather died in 1997, that day i asked to my father about my grandfather, my father told me that my grandfather is an underground hero. i was very shocked because i never know that before but the story is very exiting. it began at 1943 when China was attacked by Japan during the WW2. my grandfather is a great communist party member in China, who is tact, brave and sensitive. so that Liu Shaoqi, who was the vice chairman in China that time and he is also the leader of the Chinese underground party, asked my grandfather to go to Shenyang , where was already fall to enemy occupation, to build a network to focus on how to assassinate the enemy and how to transport medicines and weapons. My grandfather is so honest to Chinese communist party, so he received the mission and went to Shenyang to do his job. During the 4 years, 1943 - 1947, my grandfather assassinated 5 Japanese military officers and captured 200 advanced weapons. And also, he helped Red Cross to transport a lot of medicines to military front line. In 1953, the Chinese National Day, my grandfather was awarded the title “Underground Hero” by Chairman Mao. This is one story of my grandfather’s life, I can say it is only a part of them. Somehow, I really respect my grandfather. He is really a hero, an underground hero in China.

He always had to say something useful for life, and he always had that look in his eyes, like he have been trough a lot in his life. It was probably because he had a very hard life experiences. His life was very similar to life of girl from “Cinderella” fairy tale. His mother died when he was 6 years old, and than his father married another woman which was very mean to him. He did not have chance to finish college, because he had to work. But that made him want to read even more, that is probably the reason why he was so wise. When he married my grandmother he was working as a janitor in an elementary school, but he was never dissatisfied with his life. My mother always told me stories how he knew what to say, to give her confidence or make her happy. He never pushed my mum to finish college, but she told me that he was very proud of her when she got her college degree, she said that it was probably his life goal that he never reached. I do not remember him that much, but in my memory he was very mysterious person and I am said that I did not have a chance to spend more time with him.

When I first heard about the story of my grandparents’ marriage, I was shocked because it was totally different today. My grandfather was a serious and honest person but sometimes he was too short-tempered and strict to get married. In those days, people usually got married at around 20 years old. He was already twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old. All his relatives and neighbors worried about his marriage. Though they had tried to have some arranged introductions with young women, it had never succeeded. I heard this story from my grandmother and she did not know the detail. My grandmother was also too old as a woman in those days. She had been too busy to take care of her family. She is good-tempered and old enough to accept his stubbornness. Their parents arranged the marriage without letting them know each other. They met with each other at their small marriage celebration for the first time. My grandfather often bothered his wife after marriage. Despite of that, they built their good family and raised three children, my father and my aunts. Sudden “bankrupt”
What I really want to talk about is the story of my grandfather. He is definitely my beloved idol.
My grandfather is born in 1930s. He is a typical Chinese who enduring the culture revolution in china during past times, which is so called the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. At that time, people in china suffered a big change of their lives. My grandfather used to be in a big family which is really rich. The family owns the land and servants. They don’t have to work hard as they could just lend the land to farmers for growing plants and charge them fees. Everything goes well in the family until the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution approached.
There is a big change of people’s lives which followed the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in china. As the president Mao supported more farmers who has lower level living style before to become rich, and started to against the riches and knowledgeable people. Every single one of riches and knowledgeable people suffering extremely ridiculous maltreats at that time. My grandfather became a poor and guilty person just because he is rich before. His family went through the bankrupt during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. So my grandfather had to work for feeding the family.
Although there are sudden changes happened to my grandfather, he still had been so strong to support the family. He never lived without a servants before, neither worried about earning money, but he just get to accustom to all the big changes that befall on him. Although the life is no longer the same for the families, he just makes the life easier to them. He worked so hard, but there are people in the family cannot fit themselves in the situation that has to be accepted no matter how. And my grandfather had to carry the responsibility to feed them. He just did it. I think that is definitely a huge contribution to the family that they all should be grateful and appreciated that as I do.
What he did making me understand that no matter how bad the situation is, if you cannot fix it, then you have to learn to accept it and find a way to at least make it better. He taught me a philosophy of life through his own experience. I hope everybody could notice that after reading my grand father’s story.

My great grandfather was a brave knight in the old time. His lived a hard and risky life. In his era the life was difficult because they have to fight and go to battles in order to collect money and find food. Therefore, the life was scary and dangerous. Also, he was the leader of my tribe and he is the who took care about the tribe. He used to live in a tent in the middle of the one of the biggest desert in the world. Moreover, he used to live with camels and took care about them. People in that time cannot live without camels, so whoever got many camels have more ability to be stronger. People used to get meat and milk from camels. Also, people let the camels carry them and carry their stuff. My great grandfather once he was living with his neighbor and his neighbor used to have a dog; so the dog used to know my great grandfather well. After that, the neighbor moved to a different place and after a long time since the neighbor moved my great grandfather decided to went and attack some people to get camels. In a dark night my great grandfather and his friends were close from some people and ready to attack them in order to get their camels. However, suddenly the dog knew my great grandfather smell and it came to him and started to lick his hand. After that he told his friends that he is not going to attack these people because the dog knew him and it didn’t bark on him. Because the dog showed some respect to him, he went back without attacking these people under the name of respect.

Everyone has stories about their ancestors. When I read the article of “Lost lives of women”, I can understand why there are a lot of women’s stories. In China, women stand up a big part of the family especially in the old time of China. A man can get married with more than one woman at the same time. This article told the story about each of women who was showed on the photo, for instance, mother’s story, grandmother’s story, mother’s grandmother’s story. They are all the women’s stories. From now on, I want to talk about my grandmother’s story. My grandmother is 87 years old and is an industrious person. She got married with my grandfather when she was young and moved into her husband’ family. So she needed to take the family’s burden early as a wife. She did a lot of housework and took care of her husband’s father and mother while my grandfather went outside to earn money. Unfortunately, when my grandmother was over 30 years old, my grandfather was gone. There was not economic support. My grandmother needed to support this big family including two old person and four young children alone. She went to the farm at 5:00AM and went back home at 8:00PM. She worked on farm year by year. Under her diligent work and good education to children, this family was full of happy although a little poor. Each of her children went to the school and got the good education. So, I respect and admire her. She also joined the institute of women in the small town. Due to her hard working, she was to be the chairman of the institute of women. Although she knew few words, she was very intelligent. She learned anything quickly and did them very well, so she was always praised by the most of villagers. This is my grandmother and she walks on her hard way for over the half of her life but she complete them very well.

Most of the people must be proud of their own family. I am also the one who look up to my family, especially, Jack, who is my father. He has had a big amount of effects on my life. The most consequence that he affected me was that people can do everything what they want to if they keep to wish to make it real and make a lot of efforts for it. He taught me how important it is to stick to my dream and desire until I achieve them. Actually, he showed me his own great remarkable achievement. His great ambition at that time was spending one period of his lives at different places over abroad because he wanted to meet new various kinds of people, learn cultural differences, and make himself grow a lot as a human. His efforts started since he was a university student. He studied a lot including English so hard in order to get into the foreign-affiliated company. After entering one of the companies, he did work so much harder dreaming to be dispatched to foreign countries as an expatriate. As he dreamed, he did sell the company’s products most among the other employees in Japan so he was allowed to work at the United States for 5 years and Mexico for 2 years. Those times, it was not totally easy to work at the foreign countries because it was uncommon than now. But he did!! I imagine he confronted with a lot of troubles until he made it. But I believe that I also can lead my own way as I want to as he demonstrated.

I introduced my family ancestors. My grandfather was a solider who had contributed to found of China, who joined party in 1940 when he was 18. As a solider, he has very good shooting skills, and he can shoot enemy in hundreds yard away. In my childhood, he often took me to have a shooting animal’s activity. Although he was 70 years old, he can shoot the animals quickly and exactly. Once time, I asked him that why you can shoot very well. He answered that I love shooting all the time, and focus on my gun. That is the secret. I know a little of the meaning of love. His wife who is my grandmother was served my grandfather all life. She did cooking, washing and cleaning. However, she never had any complain. Once time, I asked her, why you are persistence. She told me that I love your grandfather and this family. She can do all things for her husband and this family. I seem know what the real meaning of love. Because of good family education, my father had a good performance in everywhere. He worked harder in company. Sometimes, he got up early to company and came back lately. My father has bad eyesight, because he had a lot of working to do all day. Once time, I asked my why you were working all time, but not care about your healthy. My father replied that he loved his job and he wanted to do anything for advancing his working. After listening my father’s speaking, I know the meaning of love finally. My grandfather loved his habit, my grandmother loved her husband and family and my father loved his job. That was my family members and that was love of my family.

My grandfather was one of the most respected men in my home town which was known as Agbede. He was meant to succeed his father in being the king of my home town but passed it down to another family. He died at the age of eighty two as a result of old age. He had about twelve wives and over forty children. He also had a lot of properties in the village that could be shared amongst all his children and they would be satisfied.
My dad told me about the story of his contract with Shell petroleum development companies, which is one of the biggest oil companies in the world. He said my grandfather was the first ever contractor with shell in Nigeria. when shell came to Nigeria they discovered that Nigeria had a lot of petroleum and they wanted to com and invests in this petroleum. My grandfather was the first person to be appointed as one of the contractors for the construction of their oil plants. This construction site was a couple of miles away from my hometown. My grandfather decided to go with one of his wives which was pregnant. After several months on the construction site his wife was ready to give birth. She successfully gave birth to the child which was a boy but feel sick and died after a couple of months. My grandfather saw this kid as a very beautiful child. This upset my grandfather so much that he decided to drop the contract and carried the baby’ cops all the way from the construction site like just the way he was when he died to my home town. They spent about three days on the way back to my hometown. He said he had to show his people how beautiful his baby that just died was. That was has he lost the contract and his contact with shell.

My mom’s dad

My family consist of my brother and my mom. My dad is a painter for the painter’s union who paints things like water towers, bridges, and even got a chance to paint an amusement park. My brother also works with my dad and they both have had problems with drug addiction. My mom and dad are currently divorced because of they both went to prison when I was young. My mom’s dad or my grandfather was an alcoholic and used to beat women. He used to go out some nights and not come back for days. My grandma divorced him and married another man and now lives in Ohio. They had seven kids which includes my mom. They had 5 girls which is my mom and her sister Lisa, Lori, Linda, and Becky and had 2 boys which is my uncle Mike and Tim. They all have kids except for my uncle Tim but I’m not sure. My uncles were also beat by my grandfather on numerous occasions and my mom had to pretty much do all the work around the house such as cooking, cleaning, and doing my grandfathers laundry. My grandfather is still pretty young but he is in bad shape because he had a stroke pretty recently. He is now being taken care of by a woman who had married him sometime recently. My mom goes to see him every now and again, she says he is not all there anymore and that he looks like he is in bad shape.

I would like to talk about my great grandfather. I believe he was amazing person in my life. I learn lot from him. He is my role model too. My great grandfather was doing farming, but he was living happy life then others. He was lived in the village. In India, there are no technology and modern instruments, so farmer has to do lot of handwork than present time. He was facing lot of problems in the farming even though he never looses his courage. He was grown up flowers on the farm. He was wake up morning 4 o’clock. He prays to god than he went to the picking flowers. After that he went to sell those flowers in the market. My grandfather is not make good money to selling flowers, but he was happy with small amount of money. He has a very nice nature. Everybody respect him in my village. He often says to me my son to become success never loose your dignity. I never had seen him disappoint for any reason. He is not making enough money, but he always ready to helps other. I am really impressed by this quality. He got gold medal for my village government for their helping and hardworking nature. He told me gold medal is the more valuable than money. He believes “way you see the world that’s secret of the happiness.” In India, farmer have a lot of problems. Some of farmer are suicide because of loose their crops. In this circumstance, my grandfather proves best example for the all farmers In a nutshell, we can be farmer, but we have better chance to live happy life.

Television: the Undiscovered Drug

①After a long, hard day of school and work, I trudge up the stairs to my apartment. As I approach the door, I can already hear the mumbles of the television. I open the door and am not surprised to see my sister on the couch, hand on remote, flipping through channels. I am now accustomed to this picture. My sister could be crowned couch potato queen. She watches television day and night--so much that my cousins and I now refer to her as the Human TV Guide. She knows what's on at a specific time on a specific channel. She has the channels of different stations of different areas memorized. She could tell you what channel MTV is in Torrance. She could tell you what channel USA is in Rowland Heights. She could tell you what channel TNT is in Fullerton. My sister has memorized practically everything there is to know about television. (1) , she has difficulty memorizing the multiplication table, all due to the effects of watching television endlessly. Television has had a detrimental effect on many youths.
②Television has dulled the mind of an average youth. Youths today is used to having their information passed to them on a silver platter. Not as many youths like to read anymore because it involves too much work. My sister hates to read, not only because there are words involved in that activity, but also because it is now impossible for her to visualize the world presented within the book. It is(2) impossible for her to focus on a book because of the short attention span she has developed, and reading books just takes too much time for her. Television presents the world to her, a different world every thirty minutes, which holds her attention. This now leaves her no mental work to do, except to decide which channel she would like to watch. Because watching television requires no mental work, the brains of the adolescents that watch television are not stimulated enough. This may lead to a slower learning process, which would then explain my sister’s inability to memorize the multiplication table.
③Television consumes time youths should be dedicating to more important and more essential things in their lives. Television takes away time that should be devoted to homework. When my sister gets home from school, she will immediately flip the television on, leaving her homework for later. When she finally decides to do her homework, the television will remain on, and she will sit on the couch with her books propped up in front of her, giving it only half of her attention. Homework takes longer to complete, and it probably will not be her best work since only half of her concentration was focused on it. Television also takes time away from quality family time. Most adolescents do not have a strong family connection. Families whose only time together is at the dinner table will waste precious quality time with their heads turned towards the television. The youth of today lose the strong morals and values they can get when spending time with their family. Television can even take away time from friends. When I spend time with my friends, I like to talk with them or go out. When my sister spends time with her friends, they spend the whole day watching the television. Their conversation revolves around what they are watching on the television. Most teens have the majority of their day devoted to the television.
④Television has exposed a world of violence, drugs, and sexual immorality to our youth, causing them to be apathetic towards these issues. Many television shows have made at least one of the three aspects, violence, drugs, and sexual immorality, a normalcy. The Simpsonsis a show that is enjoyed by many teens. This show depicts violence as something comedic. Regularly, in this show, the father chokes his son at least once, and the children watch a cartoon show called Itchy and Scratchy, in which a cat and mouse try to kill each other. Our youths today find this violence funny. When they encounter violence in real life, they do not consider it serious because they experience it everyday on the television. Characters in television shows such as Married with Children smoke, and although there are commercials advertising against smoking more than ever, smoking on the television gives our youths a different message. This advertises for the cigarette companies for practically free. In The Drew Carey Show, all the main characters spend their free time in a bar drinking. They even make and sell their very own beer. Cheers is another show that advocates drinking. Most of the show takes place in a bar. These characters in television shows have influence on our youth. Sexual immorality has also become common, which is exemplified by a show called Friends. Friends depicts each of their characters as people who sleep around. Sex is an integrated part of their lives and is expected when any one of the characters have a significant other. Undeclared revolves around college life in which college students have sex with each other “just for fun.” Adolescents of today model their behavior after characters like these who live in worlds of violence, drugs and sexual immorality, and they do not realize that what they are doing is wrong because to our youth, whatever they see and hear on television is right.
⑤When television was first invented, its purpose was to bring the family together and perhaps present a way in which we could receive information faster. In modern times, the television has managed to affect our youth in ways we would not have imagined. The family gathering concept has disappeared. We have accomplished a faster way to transmit information, (3) it was a little too much information a little too fast for the wrong audience. Television has taken over our way of life and we must stop the effects it has had on our youths and our society before it is too late.

As time goes on, humans may change their mind to request beauty constantly. In China, people liked thin women first in the Han Dynasty, and about 400 years along, people like married with fat women in the Tang Dynasty; and then they liked thin women again until now; moreover, they chase more specific place, such as waist. More and more men wanted their wives have silmwaist in the Han Dynasty because their emperor like it, so that women started pursue of silmwaist. The reason is ancient China is male chauvinism country; therefore, men like what that women will be the same. Although lots of women want to build their better waist quickly, the body-building is not one or two days work. As that’s result, women start to build their waist in an extremely way, three days only eaten one meal and use a bell to tighten their waist. It is really bad for women’s health, but no one wanted to stop because it is beauty to them. Although time is changed completely, China is a fair and freedom country. But the trend is still there recently. Women still want to be silmwaist, so they use a lot of method, such as medicines, plastic or some other terrible ways. This Padaung are keeping its language and tradition. They think the females who have a long neck are very beautiful, so they start to wear the copper collar to fit closely their neck and add one more follow their age growth up to the twenty five years old. Due to the weighth of copper collar from five to ten kilogram, females' shoulder are forced down and their neck will appear long. It's obvious that changing natural growth for beauty will cause a lot of serious injury such as bleeding of attrition from the hard copper collar. It's said that it will endanger females' life if they take away the copper collar from their neck after their twenty five years old. The hazard of eye surgery

The extreme beauty may be dangerous to our body. Sometimes people purse the ultimate beauty at the sacrifice of themselves with a lot of money in order to look themselves more beautiful and attractive. In my country, Japan, there are a lot of people who pay a big amount of money for being beauty and result in hurting themselves unexpectedly. It is natural to think that everybody wants to be splendiferous but sometimes people cannot judge correctly and lose their own way. Now, I’m going to introduce one of the examples that surely happen to us now in Japan. Have you ever heard of the word, “Lasic eye surgery”? Actually, “Lasic” is short for “laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis” in Greek. It means that modifying the horny cornea with laser. This “Lasic eye surgery” is a procedure that tries to recover people’s eyesights, reducing or eliminating the need for eyeglasses or contanct lens. This surgery has been started from the United States at first and spread into Japan also. Recently, Japanese people are getting this surgery in order to make thier appearance look better. Because they don't have to wear glasses anymore. However, it is also the fact that the number of people who have big problems in their eyes after the surgery has been increasing.

Why Don't We All Drive on the Same Side of the Road?

Residents of Samoa are bracing for chaos this month as the Pacific island nation becomes the first country in decades to order motorists to start driving on the opposite side of the road. On the morning of Sept. 7, drivers will switch from the right side of the street — where about two-thirds of the world's traffic moves — to the left, in order to open the nation to low-cost used autos from left-driving Australia and New Zealand. It will mark the world's first road switch since Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone changed sides in the 1970s, and one of the only instances of switching from the right to the left; virtually every other change has been the reverse. Worried about increased accidents, tens of thousands of Samoans have protested the plan. Eating disorder is one of the problems resulted from extreme beauty. Many young girls all over the world especially in developing countries are suffering from it. Of course Japan is not exception. Though the symptom of eating disorder is mainly classified into two kinds; bulimia (overeating) and anorexia (lack or loss of appetite for food), the basic attitude is the same. They are afraid of being fat abnormally. Most young girls, even little girls in elementary school believe in a “myth” that being thin is virtue and getting fat is sin. Also, it could be a beautiful person. So, beauty can be used to describe a person or a thing. Then, I will tell you that there are two styles of beauty. One is natural beauty and another one is artificial beauty. Natural beauty is defined as looking great without enhancement. For example, one person gets up in the morning and spends less time to make up and just show enough tidy appearance. Unlike the super model, the person in natural beauty doesn’t need to spend hours dealing with hair, clothing and make-up. From above example, we can see the meaning of artificial beauty is opposite to the natural beauty and it explains that it’s necessary to do something to change the original appearance. Nevertheless, we can’t say that which is better between these two styles of beauty. We only can express that you need to undertake no more than you can perform when you choose any style of beauty. There has been lots of controversy over whether marijuana can be used for medicinal purposes or if it has no real purpose. There are some uses for marijuana for physical and emotional problems. It can help with physical problems such as cancer(Increasing appetite), eating disorders, arthritis, and nausea. There are also emotional aspects that it can help too such as people who have severe anger or depression problems. These are several reasons why it has been tried to become legal to sell medical marijuana. The people who suffer from these problems can have a little pain reliever if they smoke these hybrids that are made for certain problems. There is also a healthy way to actually inhale the THCs in the buds by using a device called a vaporizer which is very safe and had almost no effect on the lungs. The use of medical marijuana should be legal because it does help and it can be used safely using the right tools and devices.
